Conference on the Future of European Democracy

This conference will explore the challenges facing liberal democracy in Europe. The panel will examine the evidence of the far-right threat to democracy in Europe and whether citizens’ movements across Europe can work together to reform and revitalise the European project. Seminar on the future for the economy, industry and business in Europe

This seminar focuses on key issues for Europe as outlined in Mario Draghi’s ‘The future of European competitiveness’ and Enrico Letta’s ‘Much more than a market’ reports. The seminar will look at how and whether the report recommendations can be implemented, and examine implications for the wider Europe, including Scotland and the UK. Tickets are £5. Family Art Workshop

Free Polish traditional paper cutouts family workshop. Leading artists Marta Adamowicz and Robert Motyka, from Beetroots Collective CIC, invite you to this 90 minute family craft workshop. All materials provided, no previous experience required. The event is supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh and the European Parliament Liaison Office in the United Kingdom.

Miasto wolności (City of Freedom) is an art documentary film with the theme of joining and belonging to the European Union and its values, hopes and freedoms. The film presents Polish communities’ feelings in post-Brexit Scotland. Supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh.

An animated retelling of a folktale from Isle of Skye using artwork created by migrants during workshops with artists from Beetroots Collective CIC, storyteller, Claire McNicol and Featuring Alys Morrison.

Film Screening: ‘7 Symptoms of Belaruskast’

Libereco and People’s Consulate for Belarus in Scotland event, screening of ‘7 Symptoms of Belaruskast’. Opening remarks will be delivered by Lord George Foulkes, who is a Libereco ‘godparent’ sponsor for the Belarusian political prisoner Stsiapan Latypau. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session. Tickets are £5.

Scotland’s EU Future. Join our partners ‘Yes for EU’ and ‘Europe for Scotland’ for a lively discussion on the benefits of Scotland’s membership of the EU. Taking place at Augustine United Church, Edinburgh, attendees will hear messages of support from current MEPs and others in Brussels on why EU membership is good for Scotland and good for Europe. This is a free event but donations are welcome.

Europe Day Concerts

Award winning chanteuse, Christine Bovill, “Scotland’s pre-eminent chanteuse” (Herald Scotland), has built her reputation on her interpretation of Chanson Francaise and classic 20th century songs. Polish Tour of Fife

Everyone is welcome to the launch of the Polish Tour of Fife website. This new free self-guided tour commemorates and celebrates positive links between Poland and Scotland. Created by Fife 4 Europe and EuroWalk. The tour visits locations associated with the presence of Polish military forces during the Second World War. Edinburgh Central EuroWalk

Edinburgh Central EuroWalk. On this free 2-hour walk, your guide will highlight monuments and buildings with long-held connections between Edinburgh and Europe. Starting from the Wojtek the Soldier Bear monument in Princes Street Gardens the route will finish outside St. Andrew’s House. This walk event will be approximately 5km.

Film Screening: Dahomey (PG)

Creative Stirling event with the support of the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK as part of the LUX Audience Awards competition. The award winning Dahomey film, directed by Mati Diop, takes the viewer on the journey of 26 plundered royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey exhibited in Paris, now being returned to Benin. PG rated film. Tickets are free, but you need to register.

Film Screening: Flow

Creative Stirling event with the support of the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK as part of the LUX Audience Awards competition. The Oscar winning animated film Flow is a family friendly film about Cat, a solitary animal whose home is devastated by a great flood meaning he has to team up with other species despite their differences. U rated film. Tickets are free, but you need to register.

Liberation Convoy

Unique chance to visit secret wartime vessels. A World War II convoy of fishing and merchant vessels arrives in Shetland from Norway to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day. These vessels once smuggled special forces soldiers, secret agents and supplies from Shetland to Norway. Visitors can board the boats and discover more about the unsung British and Norwegian heroes who travelled in them. Click the link to learn more.
