Directed by Alejandro Amenábar, The Captive is an historical drama that explores the life of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote. The film focuses on Cervantes’ five-year captivity in Algiers, starting in 1575, after being wounded in battle. It depicts his various attempts to escape, and his relationship with the Governor of Algiers.
